The BASM students benefit from our unique position within the British Education Group which means that BASM students have direct access to information from every current British Higher Education provider in Morocco.
The BASM Careers Programme seeks to be broad and impartial, equipping every student with all the knowledge and skills they need to make informed decisions about life beyond School.
The programme is based on the which are:
1. A stable careers programme
2. Learning from career and labour market information
3. Addressing the needs of each pupil
4. Linking curriculum learning to careers
5. Encounters with employers and employees
6. Experiences of workplaces
7. Encounters with further and higher education
8. Personal guidance
Currently there are two education providers for students who wish to continue their education at a British Higher Education (post year 13) in Morocco. They are:
- SIST (Cardiff Met University) www.sist.ac.ma
- IIEM (Coventry University) www.iiem.ac.ma
Careers education forms a continuous thread throughout our students’ time at The BASM. It aims to provide a framework within which each can develop the self-awareness and experience necessary to make balanced decisions at each stage during their time at the school and, hopefully, after they leave.
Our careers advice is up-to-date and relevant in today’s fast-changing job market and the constantly evolving world of university provision. This makes it easier for students to choose a career path that is right for them.
The Careers Guidance room is located on the 2nd Floor in dedicated space, allowing students to access a range of resources, and providing a base for Careers Advice to be presented through individual and group sessions.
Y8 students follow our “Developing Skills and Values” programme, focusing on transferable skills, twenty first century employment skills and the importance of personal values. This is very much the foundation of the Careers programme.
In Y9 students progress to looking at “Interview Skills and the Workplace”. They are taught about and develop interview skills, researching Careers options, effective networking and developing confidence and assertiveness. Some of these lessons allow them to fully prepare for our annual Careers Fair.
Y10 students focus on “Preparing for the Future”, preparing an initial CV, links between subject choices and Careers, teamwork and manageability and preparation for work experience.
Further information regarding our Careers Guidance programme can be accessed via the Careers@BASM Portal
Nabeel Obaid, our careers officer (firstname.lastname@example.org) stated 'Our primary concern at the BASM is to ensure that we give broad, impartial advice, work closely with all external partners, employers and universities, to introduce students to careers and work experience. Events are hosted each year, including a Careers Week and various careers talks. The Careers department will always gratefully receive any contacts and offers of attendance at various Careers events. Please do not hesitate to get in contact if you are able to attend any of our events.'
